Dear Members,
We can be extremely proud to have such a beautiful Club – our gardens are looking pristine, each sporting section is growing and attracting new members. Our Bowlers have been very successful with hosting their open day and twilight evenings to encourage the younger members. Squash hosted their first fundraising dinner, with an 80’s theme, which was a huge success. Their league and championship finals took place in November.
The general downturn in the SA economy is reflected in our turnover and member spend per head to date. We are doing as much as we can to encourage more use of the clubs facilities by constantly looking to improve our offerings and keeping up our communication to members, also looking at new forms of generating revenue with the recent Davis Cup being an example of that.
It was a privilege to host Davis Cup at the Club in 2019, our Tennis Manger Jackie Booth and the Tennis Committee including Danie Appel invested a considerable amount of time in assisting the Club in making this event possible – the Team set the bar high and hope to continue building on more tournaments at the Club that will promote massive growth.
During this year we have concluded reciprocal arrangements with 5 clubs in Australia, The Netherlands and Port Elizabeth and we encourage our members to make use of these clubs and all the other clubs we have reciprocal arrangements with, if they are travelling.
Please note, the Annual subscription are due by the 31st March every year and our letter confirming the 2020 fees will be sent to all members during December.
The demolishing of the additions to the sports facility has been completed but no decision will be made on the way forward until the insurance claim which is presently in the hands of our lawyers has
been resolved. Thereafter members will be consulted before any decision is made. We have also commenced the preparation of a Maintenance Programme for the next 10 years in order to invest and carefully consider future projects at the Club.
The WPCA construction is progressing and we have requested that the right-hand turn into Kelvin Grove commences in the New Year.
I would like to take this opportunity to firstly thank the Committee , the various sporting committees and Management and Staff for all the time and effort they put in to make the Club what it is today and secondly to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Your Sincerely,
Peter Blanckenberg
Chairman
