BRIDGE NEWS
Attendance at social bridge has more than doubled over the last few years and we are hoping that in 2010 many more members will join us.
Until now it has been the custom to play Rubber Bridge, but the majority of the social players have for some time been lobbying for the modern BONE or BODD method of scoring. This means that one is bidding to the full extent of one’s hand all the time and not missing slams “because we only need 40”.
On a sad note, Una Hedley passed away in November in her 100th year. She was not only the eldest member of the Bridge Club, but also one of the oldest members of Kelvin. She had the brain of a thirty year old and a cheerful and placid disposition. During the last couple of years, her eyesight deteriorated to the extent that she could only watch us playing bridge but she was always warmly welcomed by everyone and we are going to miss her.
Members are reminded that social bridge is played on Monday and Friday afternoons in the Cream Lounge from about 13:30 to 17:00. It is not necessary to bring a partner, only a scorepad and pen. Unfortunately we do not cater for beginners but would be more than happy to help those who have not played for a long time.
