RICKETY BRIDGE
Rickety Bridge Winery is an historic Franschhoek wine estate. Situated in the renowned Franschhoek valley, the food and wine capital of South Africa, the Rickety Bridge Winery and Country Manor House nestles against the hillside overlooking vineyards and the majestic Wemmershoek Mountain Range.
The land dates back to 1694 when farms were granted to the first French Huguenots who settled in the area. Rickety Bridge was originally part of La Provence farm, one of the first 7 French Huguenot farms in Franschhoek.
The property changed hands a number of times and in the 1980’s became known as Rickety Bridge due to the old railway sleeper bridge which crossed the Franschhoek River on the property. In 2000, Duncan Spence, a British businessman, recognized the potential of Rickety Bridge and acquired the property.
Rickety Bridge wine estate is 50 hectares in area of which only 15 hectares are currently dedicated to vineyards, with a further 6 hectares under development. The remaining 35 hectares comprise of buildings, dams and pine forest.
Today this Franschhoek wine estate is home to a modern boutique-style winery, a unique restaurant, a wedding and function venue and has both conferencing and 4 star luxurious accommodation.
