WINE TASTING
When we tasted the wines from Doolhof Wine Estate in July Daan Coetzee, the General Manager, gave a very interesting talk on the background of this historic farm which dates back to 1707. Friedrich Khune, the winemaker, took us through their range of wines with their Shiraz, Dark Lady Pinotage and Sauvignon Blanc 2009 being favourites of our members. This relatively new wine estate in Wellington has made a huge contribution to establish the Wellington area as a top wine-producing region in South Africa.
We all know the original Excelsior wine farm between Robertson and Ashton. In 2005 this farm was divided and Stephan de Wet called his half of the vineyards, Arabella. He built a cellar and started to produce his own wine under the Arabella label. Richard Abraham sampled their very popular range of wines with us at our August tasting and everyone enjoyed the evening.
The next two wine tasting evenings will be as follows:
22 October : Elgin Vintners - Elgin
18 November: Kelvin Grove's Annual Wine Festival
There will be no wine tasting evening in December
See you at the tasting table !
